7 Ways to Accomplish Your Goals When Life Seems to be Crumbling All around You.

Have you ever set a brilliant goal for yourself and got highly motivated to begin working on it right away? The first few days or weeks are fantastic. You are making progress. Then life starts throwing a lot of obstacles and challenges at you. Before you realize it, your goals have taken the back seat. Does this sound familiar? Do you get discouraged, give up or tend to beat yourself up?

I have experienced this awful feeling on many occasions, especially when I have put together all my New Year resolutions. I always start with so much stamina. Then life somehow happens. I miss one day from exercise, with the clear intention of a double workout the following day. The next day proves to be pretty stressful. I am up and down trying to get things done. My high-calorie snack is justified. The next thing I realize bitterly is that I am back into my bad old habits, not working out and not eating healthy.

We are not alone in this struggle. Many who are eager to set goals for their lives undergo the same challenge from time to time. Why do some people manage to push through all these setbacks while others are overwhelmed? Here are seven ways to accomplish your goals when life seems to be crumbling all around you.

Set S.M.A.R.T Goals and Action Plans.

The more specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-bound your goal can be the better. Create action plans no matter how insignificant you think they are. Do not despise the small steps. When life comes crumbling all around you, it is much easier to pick right from where you left and move on when you have a clear action plan to guide you.

Make Yourself a Priority First.

You give up on your goals sometimes just because you put others before yourself now and then. It is wonderful always to yearn to help others, but if you are putting others ahead of your goals and priorities, you will soon become overwhelmed. Doing this might be difficult for people like me who genuinely care about others. In most cases, I feel guilty if I don’t do something for someone else. I have come to learn that this is a habit I need to give up. If you do not care for yourself first, you cannot be best enough to help other people.

Dedicate Yourself to the Process.

You need to concentrate all your energy and zeal to the process. Remind yourself that you are out to change your behavior no matter the emerging obstacles. When you decide to take action on your goals, you’re actually creating a new habit. Additionally, you are building self-confidence to help you remain standing when life becomes hard, and you start losing sight of your goal through postponement.

Avoid the Temptation of Multitasking.

Give your brain the required harmony and focus on one task at a time. When working on your goals, you need to concentrate on that fully. When you are with your family, focus on them entirely. Allocate a specific time to work on your goals and remove distractions like the phone. Success is all about being consistent.

Monitor Your Progress.

Ensure you have a system to evaluate the steps you have taken towards accomplishing your goals. Feedback informs you if your actions are bearing fruit or if they are leading nowhere. If your action plan isn’t moving you anywhere, modify it quickly or eliminate what is preventing your progress.

Maintain an Attitude of Gratitude.

Having a mindset of gratefulness for people, things, and opportunities in your life is vital to keeping you on course when life seems to be crumbling all around you. If you cannot appreciate what you have now, you won’t be able to appreciate anything once you accomplish your goals. Your struggles and experiences shaped you into who you are today. They are lessons that can either build or break you. Be grateful for all of them.

Keep a Positive Attitude.

To accomplish your goals when life seems to be crumbling all around you, you must maintain a positive internal self-talk on a daily basis. Do not wait for someone to give you permission to star acting on your goals. Learn to say no when you have to and do not compare yourself to other people who seem to be succeeding. Remember, this is your journey, not theirs.  Furthermore, do not allow emotions to control your actions because as usual, emotions come and go.
